Surisan is a mountain in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, that offers a scenic and challenging hike for nature lovers. It is not as famous as Gwanaksan, but it has its own charm and beauty, especially in autumn when the leaves turn into vibrant colors. My family and I decided to try this hike and share our experience with you.
The hike
We started our hike from Santon Station on LINE 4. There are two entrances to the park, but the first one was closed for construction, so we took the second one. There, we saw a small playground for children and some walking paths. We chose the one that went uphill, as we wanted to reach the ridge of the mountain.
The hike was not very difficult, even for kids, but it was quite steep for the first hour. We enjoyed walking under the trees that had beautiful colors in that season. We could see the red, yellow, and orange leaves contrast with the green pine needles and the blue sky. It was a feast for the eyes.
After a few minutes, we had our first view of Anyang (안양시) behind us. We could see the cityscape and the river from the mountain. We also saw the first peak of Surisan getting closer and closer. But, we continued on the rocky path until we reached the first peak, Gwanmobong (관모봉). From there, we could see Anyang and Gunpo, another city in Gyeonggi Province. We took some pictures with the Korean flag, ate some snacks, drank some water, and then headed to the next peak, which was very close.
After 20 minutes, we reached Taeeulbong (태을봉), the highest peak of Surisan at 489 meters. There were many people there, already having their lunch. We decided to continue a little bit on the path to find a place to eat.
We found a nice spot under a tree with a beautiful view of the mountain and Gunpo. You could also see Suwon, the capital of Gyeonggi Province, in the distance.
We had a good rest and enjoyed our food, but we knew we had to finish the hike. The end of the path was still far. We walked along the ridge of Surisan for a few minutes, before reaching the last peak of the day, Seulgibong (슬기봉), at 474 meters. We made a mistake and followed the wrong path for a few minutes, so we had to go back. Then, we started the long downhill to the Surisan subway station. The descent was easier than the ascent, but it had many stairs. We finished the hike on a very family-friendly path.
We finally arrived at Surisan Station after a few hours of a very nice hike. The autumn colors and the views of the cities were wonderful. We had a great time as a family and we recommend this hike to anyone who loves nature and adventure.
Conclusion
Surisan is a great place to hike in autumn, as it offers stunning scenery and a moderate challenge. It is not as crowded as Gwanaksan, but it has its own charm and beauty. It is also a good way to spend quality time with your family and enjoy the outdoors. We hope you liked our blog article and we invite you to try this hike yourself.
